Astoria had ended up staying the night even though she had been a little hesitant about it. Not for a lack of wanting to be with Graham but rather the slight awkwardness that would potentially be seeing Lindley at breakfast giving their tentative and slow steps towards getting along. It certainly wouldn't be because of a lack of clothes either, even if she wasn't currently wearing anything underneath the bed covers. Though any further worrying would have to wait for in that moment, in a state of still-kind-of-sleeping-but-starting-to-w Somehow Graham's bedroom had become some sort of bird menagerie. It was then she spotted the source of the honking, a goose… well, not just a goose but six of them. Not just geese either but there were chickens, blackbirds, doves and… then she was wondering how she'd managed to completely miss the tree that was at the foot of the bed. Astoria was pretty sure this wasn't Graham's doing though because it just didn't seem like the kind of surprise he'd gift her with. "Graham," she said a slightly worried tone in her voice as she nudged at his shoulder. Though keeping an eye on the birds just in case there was any sudden movement from any of them. The geese were particularly worrying, because geese were mean. -- Graham had been having a very odd dream. Most dreams were odd, but this one was even more so than average. There was the general oddness of the dream but then these occasional and completely unrelated sounds would break through. It was disorienting, even to his dream self. He wasn’t sleeping particularly deeply by the end of it, so when Astoria said his name he gave a quiet grunt of acknowledgement, starting out of his sleepy haze. And then there was another loud noise that was clearly not in his dream but actually real. Rolling onto his back and sitting up, he blinked a few times, trying to clear the sleep from his eyes and be able to see what was happening. Birds, that’s what was happening. Lots of birds. Not the occasional small one that got up in the rafters at the brewery, but a whole collection of birds there in his bedroom. And a tree. “What the hell…” Graham reached to the bedside table to get his wand, his eyes skimming over the chickens that had started pecking at his floorboards. “I… am awake? Right?” -- "Either that or we're both sharing the same dream," she replied. Astoria started edging back when one of the blackbirds decided to fly to the end of the bed. "Though I'm pretty sure we're both awake." As she ran her hand through her hair Astoria noticed it felt different than usual and felt around to see if there was anything in her hair - but there wasn't. When she brought her hand down to inspect it her eyes widened at seeing the golden band around her finger. That definitely wasn't there last night. "I think the morning just got a bit stranger," she commented warily, showing her hand to Graham. -- “I thought the weird dreams were supposed to stop now the Ministry caught that guy…” Graham trailed off as the bird came toward them, pulling his pillow from behind his back to hold in front of them like a shield in case the birds got any ideas. He'd been eyeing a particularly agitated looking goose when his attention was drawn away by Astoria and the very real ring on her finger. “I didn't do that,” he said dumbly, before shaking his head. “I mean, any of this, but that's not… birds.” -- "So did I. I think this is a little too weird even for a dream," she said. Astoria flinched when one of the geese honked loudly. "Have I ever mentioned I don't particularly like geese?" "I didn't think you would. I mean, I'd at least hope I'd remember being asked or whatever first before finding any sort of jewellery," she said, as she tried tugging at it. Her eyes widened in horror and she tried again. "Uh… I think it's stuck…" Astoria looked from the ring to the bird and back a few times, when she was certain there weren't going to be any sudden movements on the bird's part she leaned over, while keeping her focus on the bird lest it move, and was blindly trying to reach for her wand that she'd put on the side table. Except she couldn't feel it and so turning her gaze she looked for wand and although she saw her wand there was a sharp intake of breath when she saw at least four more rings that looked near identical to the one on her finger. Quickly she grabbed her wand and turned her focus to the bird while scooting a little closer to Graham. "There's more on the table," she said quietly. -- “I don't know of many people who like geese,” Graham replied, almost managing a laugh. It was all just a tad bit too absurd not to laugh, considering his bedroom had gotten turned into some kind of aviary. His gaze flickered over to the table when she mentioned there being more. None of it made sense, but especially not the rings when everything else was birds. Graham kept the pillow held out in front of them as he raised his wand, blocking one of the chickens as it hopped up onto the bed near them. “Well maybe they thought you needed one for each finger? Only on the one hand, of course, but…” -- Although she'd never been beaten she had once been chased by a goose and, she hadn't even done anything to it, ever since she'd been wary around them. "I don't know, one seems plenty enough to me," she replied, before sending a rather minor repelling spell at a blackbird that had decided to swoop. Not that it was something Astoria gave much thought to but if it ever happened then one, maybe two, on the one finger would be more than enough. "I am worried about where they and the birds came from though, and how they got inside." "I don't suppose you've had any amazing ideas on how we can safely get rid of all of them?" she asked both worriedly and hopefully. Because she hadn't thought of anything yet - not even a way to just get past all the birds and leaving them behind in the room until they could think of something. -- Graham gave a hum of agreement as he watched the birds warily. He, too, was worried about where they’d come from and how they’d gotten into his bedroom. Even if his window had been open, which it wasn’t, there was no explanation for how the tree would have gotten in with the birds. He didn’t like the thought of someone being able to get things into his house without him knowing or his permission. “Nothing amazing, no,” he replied, frowning. Perhaps if he’d been awake a bit longer, or had coffee, but there was still a bit of a sleep haze over him despite being fully awake quite quickly due to the bird situation. Graham looked around the room, for once a bit annoyed at how minimally it was furnished, but then his eyes landed on the chest over against the wall where spare blankets were kept. A few flicks of his wand was all it took for the blankets to come out, trap all the birds inside them and corner them off to one side of the room. He could see where wings and beaks were hitting against the blankets, but the makeshift walls held steady as he let out a breath. “Alright. I think… it should hold them long enough for us to get out…” -- "At least long enough to get something to drink that'll wake us up," she commented, having watched as Graham, with the help of magic, made a makeshift 'cage' from the blankets. She was glad for the quick thinking though since she hadn't even thought of that much. She'd been stuck on trying to think of options that wouldn't leave them with agitated avians wanting to attack them. "Besides my mind only seemed to keep coming up with options that I was sure would only end up annoying the geese and that really didn't seem like a good idea." As they carefully edged their way out of the room, closing the door behind them, Astoria let out a sigh of relief. "Well, that was some unexpected excitement," she said wryly. "Hopefully neither us us end up having weird dreams or nightmares about birds. Anyway after maybe a tea or coffee, I'll stay and help to clean up and everything." -- Graham got up from the bed, still moving slowly as though any sudden movement would cause the cage to fall apart and for the birds to come out toward him. He slipped a shirt on as they moved toward the door, his gaze staying fixed on where the birds were trapped until they were out and the door was latched securely behind them. “I just want to get them gone, but I can’t do that without coffee,” Graham said, rubbing his hands over his face. “You don’t have to help clean up, it’s not like you caused there to be geese in my room. Shouldn’t take long to do anyway, just a few spells.” He offered her a tired smile and tilted his head toward the stairs. “Coffee, though? Maybe I can rustle up some muffins, too.” -- "I know but I want to help," she responded, returning the smile and slipping her hand into his. "Doesn't seem very fair letting just you alone to clean it all up and getting rid of the birds." Astoria might not have been responsible for the geese or the other birds appearing… or the tree... or the rings but she knew she'd end up feeling bad if she left it up to just Graham to take care of. "Coffee and muffins sounds good though," she agreed happily, following Graham downstairs. It hadn't yet occurred to her this morning, or even last night for that matter, to ask Graham if Lindley was okay with her staying the night. Not that the intention had been to stay over, it had just gotten too late and they'd ended up falling asleep. -- “Well if you’d like to help, that’s fine,” Graham said, his thumb rubbing against the back of her hand as they went downstairs. He wasn’t about to turn down her offer, even if it wasn’t necessary. It would make the clean up go quicker and put the whole ordeal behind them faster. Before they got to that, there was coffee to be had, and after that they could deal with it all. |
