"I don't want to be - that," Max replied, pain and loathing evident in his voice. If that was 'who he was', he'd much rather Siobhan did trap him and make him be something else. It wouldn't be fair on her. It wasn't right to let her keep trying to make him normal. Max had been trying for years. He closed his eyes as she stroked his face, letting out a sigh. "I don't know." For once, Max didn't have a plan. "I still want to marry you, but I don't want you to regret it."
He was a little relieved they hadn't set a wedding date yet. "We have to decide soon." They couldn't continue being engaged forever, not now they'd started talking about the wedding. He drew a lock of hair through his fingers, opening his eyes to watch it. Maybe they didn't have to decide today.
