Siobhan didn't think that she was perfect, but Max seemed to believe that she was. He seemed to think that he was somehow the broken one in their relationship when she felt nothing of the sort. When he said what he did about being normal and apologized, she felt her heart break for him. She didn't push him away, though, her body trembling in response to the touch and to his words.
"I think you are mistaken in believing that there is such a thing as normal," she told him. "I want to be with you, too, Max, but how do you know if you can be happier with someone else if you haven't tried? What if I'm holding you back from finding real happiness?" She knew how families could be, though, especially families that were prominent like theirs. Anything that was deemed unworthy was shunned and buried. It was no surprise that Max had done his best to bury any feelings he'd had that seemed unsavory. "I'm always going to be here for you, Max. No matter what happens. She pulled back a little, her hands cupping his face as she looked up at him. "You trust me, don't you? If you do, then trust me to tell me what's really going on in your head. All of it."
