"There will be no in between," Siobhan agreed with a laugh. Stubbornness was definitely the common factor between Max and Pippa. "I wish her the best of luck in out stubborning him." She knew both of them well enough to know that it would be no easy task but that Pippa was unlikely to give up easily either.
Best friend jealousy was fine and dandy and Siobhan was smiling a little throughout the whole explanation until the last comment that Higgs made. The smile flickered out like a dying light bulb. "Oh," she said, the word barely even an exhale. "Well, yes, I could see how that would have upset him." It wasn't the first time such a comment had fluttered past Siobhan. She wasn't sure she wanted to think much on that possibility, especially if she let herself consider the love life — or lack of one — that she shared with Max. She wondered a lot of times if she wasn't physically attractive enough for him and that was why he didn't seem to want to be intimate with her, but she'd never let herself consider that there might have been another, deeper reason for his lack of willingness. She'd blamed it on being tired, or overwhelmed by his work, but the the reason she came back to time and time again was that she was somehow not enough.
Pushing all of her thoughts away, she lifted her cup to take a drink hoping that the warmth of the coffee would be enough of a distraction to calm her racing thoughts.
