Honestly, it hadn't really occurred to him to ask his friends to go on adventures with him, though it probably should have. Ken and Andrew, and even Toby, would probably be much better people to take on physical adventures like rock climbing, scuba diving, or cliff jumping, but that would defeat the purpose of asking Ashleigh. Yes, he was bored, and yes, he wanted to go out and do something new and maybe a teeny bit dangerous, but he also wanted to do those things with the girl he loved. They were so different, and in many ways, that was a great and necessary thing, but it also meant that they didn't really do much. They hung out and went to dinner, but they didn't really go out and do a whole lot. Axel just wanted to do stuff with her.
However, he was also very okay if she wanted to just distract him with sex. Especially given her nature regarding physical things, Axel would probably not complain if she tried to distract him any time she wanted to. She wasn't likely to abuse it to keep them from talking about things they really needed to, or to keep from telling him things she needed to, so really, he didn't much care if she was in the mood or just wanted to shut him up.
In fact, she may have ended the kiss in order to give a better solution than distraction, but Axel was the one who said, "This is better than skiing," and kissed her again. Much better than skiing.
