"You're welcome," Siobhan said. People like Higgs fought — and much too often, died — for people like her and those she loved to carry on living their daily lives. The very least she could do was give credit where it was due and offer her appreciation and gratitude up to someone who had fought for her.
She smiled, pleased to be thought of as lovely company. "I have to apologize for Max. He's very stubborn sometimes." She paused, then laughed again and shook her head as she corrected herself. "Most of the time. Your cooking was wonderful, I promise." And it had been. Max's taste might have been a little different, but he could have easily fixed the issue if he wasn't so stubborn that evening. "Maybe we could have you over sometime," she said. "My flat isn't the most welcoming, certainly not as lovely as your home, but I can host a dinner. At least until we find a house and get settled in."
