andrew // byron
Byron was nervous. Majority of social interaction made him nervous. But tonight was especially nerve wrecking. Which, Byron accepted, was also kind of stupid. The thing was, he genuinely really wanted to be friends with Andrew. Firstly, Andrew was Elise's brother, however that might go in the end, and Byron assumed well, he'd be around. Byron recognised that it was an odd situation but so far everyone had assured him that Andrew was alright. Elise hadn't cried since meeting him and even then Byron didn't think it had been a great deal to do with Andrew himself and everything to do with Elise's dad. Secondly, though, Byron wanted to be friends with Andrew because whilst he might be Elise's brother by blood, Byron kind of just assumed that that made him Byron's brother, too.
In a way, Byron did recognise that he was being a bit ambitious. Andrew, from what Byron had gathered, wasn't even all that sure he wanted to get to know Elise, and she, at least, was definitely related to him by blood. Byron was the sort of extra on the side, where very technically they were siblings but there wasn't a great deal of obligation for Andrew to get to know Byron. Not that he had any actual obligation to get to know Elise either, but somehow that was probably different. What definitely didn't help was that Byron didn't know how to make friends with Andrew. Toby, bless him, had assured Byron that it'd be okay, that Byron had made friends before, but Byron honestly didn't think this was true. Toby was probably the closest to someone Byron had made friends with and that had mostly been through exposure. Arran had very much just been there long enough for Byron to become friends with him. Even Caitlin had been borderline pushy in her approach and it had worked. Byron didn't really think he could just inject himself in Andrew's life until he felt comfortable speaking to the other man.
So, all in all, Byron was nervous. Because he had no idea what to do. It helped to have this group outing because it meant that others could talk. Going out with Elise and Evan had been alright, Byron had actually quite enjoyed himself. Having Caitlin there with them tonight also helped (even if Byron did suspect Elise hadn't particularly wanted Caitlin to come). Except Byron still wanted to make the effort. Wanted to... something. So what he opted for in the end, was offering to pay for all the snacks that Andrew had lined up at the till. Or, rather, joining Andrew at the till and pulling out his wallet, clearly (hopefully) indicating that he would pay for the lot. Andrew had, after all, paid for their tickets. So if nothing else, at least Byron was being nice.
