The sorry wasn't really necessary or able to make a great deal of difference, but Higgs recognised for what it was, an attempt to help, so he offered Lydia a soft smile. She was a good friend to have. Not that Higgs imagined most people would've chucked him out but he was still glad it was Lydia he had ended up seeing after--well, that. Taking another sip of his water, Higgs gave a small shake of his head at the assurance that others wouldn't have coped much better in Higgs' place. In parts, that was probably true, Higgs didn't feel awful that he hadn't been able to help himself, mostly just a little sad that that was the situation he was in currently. Whether that would ever change, Higgs wasn't sure, which also probably wasn't terribly helpful.
"Yeah," Higgs nodded when Lydia asked after the support group meetings. "They're--" Helping? Higgs wasn't sure. They weren't making things worse. Not really. They got him to do things, act on things. "Some are easier than others," he finally settled on. "I try to talk, at the meetings, I mean, but sometimes it's just--" hard. Sometimes it was hard. Higgs was still immensely grateful that Pippa came with him, but he was starting to become more and more aware that he needed to ask her to not come. To finally break off the learner-wheels and do this on his own. "I guess they are helping," Higgs finally settled on. "Probably." Today definitely wasn't a good indication of that, but then, Higgs also hadn't quite expected to encounter explosions.
