Roger snorted at Arran's confirmation that leaving Daphne at the restaurant on her birthday would have, in fact, been rude. "I did pay," Roger assured with a smirk. Not only had he paid, he had also assured Daphne he would since it was her birthday. If not for his own somewhat awkward way of dealing with the situation, Roger was rather pleased with how Daphne seemed to have genuinely enjoyed her birthday. The interlude of 'what are we' could be overlooked, especially since Roger had agreed they could just date if that was going to make the situation easier for her. In the grand scheme of things, Roger wasn't sure it really made a difference to him, not when twenty four hours in they were still as they had been. That was the bit he enjoyed, regardless of what they opted to call it.
Matching the way Arran raised his glass, Roger clinked his against it, offering a 'cheers' back before taking a sip of his beer. It wasn't as odd to tell Arran as Roger had expected even if there was still something perhaps not so oddly difficult about the revelation. The whole situation, between him and Arran, was still something Roger was trying to figure out how to manoeuvre. Which was also why he wasn't too sure what to say next. Roger wanted to ask for a run-down of all the things he'd missed in the past year but that would also serve to highlight the fact that he hadn't been there for the past year and then why. So that was not a good plan. But he also wasn't sure what to say.
Taking another sip of his beer, Roger gave a small shrug. "So this is awkward," which it was. Still better than when Arran had showed up at his house the first time around. "I'm glad you invited me out, though," Roger admitted truthfully. He didn't know why Arran had, even if Lydia insisted it might be to fix their friendship. Why Arran wanted to do that was beyond Roger, since Roger so obviously didn't deserve it.
