Taking a sip of his tea, Higgs offered a small shrug when Caitlin noted how it was awful. It was but then that was also kind of the reality that Higgs had just come to accept. He'd been shot before, had seen people die, had killed people. It wasn't really the sort of life most people chose but it had suited him well, had made him into who he was and had taught him how to be a better person. It wasn't all bad. Just left a lot of scars behind, evidently both physical and mental.
"I don't wish for you to understand," Higgs replied honestly. "But I do appreciate the sympathy," he added in what he hoped was a sincere way. Higgs did appreciate it. Caitlin seemed like a nice kid, clearly very caring. "I'm sorry," he offered. "This," and there Higgs gave a small wave around to indicate the general situation. "Isn't exactly a cheery conversation to be having over tea," which was true. "How about you tell me how you're enjoying living with my nan, eh?" He said with a smile. "She take you on a tour to a sex shop yet?" Because Higgs had vivid, somewhat scarring memories of having experienced that first-hand.
