Fred preened a little when Higgs agreed, even if it was just to be nice. In a way, he felt bad for his own appearance being so similar to George's for the sake of the man's feelings. No doubt it wasn't easy to have a conversation with a man who looked identical to a man who had a very complicated relationship with someone that you cared about. Divorcing or not, Fred wasn't stupid enough to believe that Higgs didn't love Alicia, after all. He was a nice guy as far as Fred could tell. He had nothing against Higgs whatsoever.
He was friends with Alicia, yes, but he didn't think that meant he couldn't be friendly with Higgs as well. He shook his head. "No need to apologize," he told him. "The whole thing is a mess for everyone, least of all me. I'm sure you're having a far worse go than I am. I'm just sorry that everything is so...," he trailed off and sighed, trying to think of the right word. "Complicated?," he offered up finally. "It's a big clusterfuck and I'm sorry that you're in the middle of it. I do hope things get better for you." For Alicia too, of course.
