"I will make sure to share," he assured Gladys, somewhat amused recalling her telling him and Gemma off for arguing over sharing. Higgs was very good at sharing, he might even give Gemma some cake, after he had finished teasing her about falling off a broom. "Thank you," Higgs added sure that Gladys would, in fact, provide him with cake to share. Really, he was quite looking forward to it, since Higgs couldn't actually recall the last time he had had one of Gladys' cakes.
Being assured that he was young and likely to have many more experiences made Higgs smile softly. Logically, he knew Gladys was right. She certainly had far more life experience and knowledge to share. But she was also right in that Higgs really couldn't right now. He hoped that the 'right now' implied that maybe one day he would be able to, but Higgs wasn't sure how true that was. He had honestly loved Alicia with everything he had, or at least, everything he felt he had. That wasn't really going to ever change, Higgs didn't think, and even if he was to fall in love with someone else, which Higgs was unsure he would, how exactly would he explain that to someone? Sorry, you can't have all of my heart, because my wife's still got it. Ex-wife, Higgs corrected in his head. Soon to be ex-wife. He really needed to start remembering that.
"Thank you," he said instead. "I value both your advice and your support," he told his nan honestly, giving her arm a small squeeze. "Speaking of which," Higgs continued, opting to slightly shift the subject of love. "Do you think I could come and stay at yours for a bit at some point? Sea air, I have been assured, does miracles to once constitution," well, that was somewhat true, since Ashleigh had told Higgs it had done miracles for people who lived in factory filled towns, but that was besides the point.
