Higgs laughed when Gladys told him off for having never mentioned the journals to her before. "I don't really use them much," he offered. "Well, I suppose I try to read through them unless I forget," but it was certainly true that Higgs himself didn't write much in the journals, not in comparison to how much other people seemed to use them. "I guess, I just didn't think to mention them?" He probably should have, she was right. Gladys had always been very keen on new things, so Higgs should have realised she would like the journals. "But you know now!" He added happily. He did also snort at her suggestion that he might be worry she'd embarrass him or Gemma. "You could hardly embarrass anyone," he told her honestly. Sure, as a teenager having a nan who ran sex shops had been... odd. But now that Higgs was old enough to know what sex was, it really didn't bother him one bit. Mostly he was just very proud of the sort of business success she had managed to gain.
When Gladys explained how Higgs' dad had told her about Alicia, Higgs gave a small shake of his head. It wasn't that he didn't want to talk about it, he just wasn't sure what he could explain and what seemed too confusing even to himself. He was glad his dad had told Gladys, though, not particularly keen on breaking the news of him and his wife breaking up again to Gladys. "I'm not doing too badly," he finally settled on. "I went to a support group meeting on Thursday," he explained. "For ex-soldiers. Pippa came with me, which was nice of her because I'm not sure I would have had the... courage? To go on my own," Higgs told her as they walked. "It's--I think it will take a while for me to get better but I'm trying," which he was and really, Higgs couldn't ask more from himself than that.
"Actually," Higgs said after a moment. "I was wondering if you could recommend me a--" There he paused, almost surprised in how hard the words were to say out loud. "Divorce lawyer?" He finished before giving Gladys a small smirk in order to distract himself from the feelings bubbling up in his stomach. "You're the only person in the magical world I know with experience in the matter," he told her teasingly.
