Higgs frowned when Ashleigh pushed her salad away, but the frown didn't last for terribly long as he reached out to pull it closer to himself and finish it for her. Well, he could hardly let food waste, now could he? At her question, he shook his head, fork halfway to his mouth. "No," he replied honestly before swallowing a mouthful of the abandoned salad. "I did, but I don't really mind it. I don't enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the army, but it's a good job," Higgs explained. He was a soldier. There was no two ways about it. What Higgs did best was be a soldier, except that was no longer an option so he had to make do. Being a hitwizard wasn't actually too bad once he had gotten used to the extreme amounts of paperwork required of him.
"I'm sorry," he offered when Ashleigh said that perhaps she could change her job when things were settled. Higgs was under no illusion that he was part of the reason why things currently weren't settled. He both wanted and didn't want to ask after Alicia. Nothing productive could come of it, Higgs was sure. He'd hurt her, he knew that, but asking Ashleigh how much he had fucked up her life, too, well, that was just going to make Higgs feel guilty and unable to help. Didn't stop him from wishing he hadn't, though. Higgs did assume she'd know what the apology was for.
When the conversation moved on to Quidditch, Higgs nodded. "Yeah, I am," he confirmed. "I've got tickets to see Gemma's first game and everything," he added with a smile. Higgs really was looking forward to that. It'd be... different. A change in his every day routine. "You could come with me if you'd like?" He offered because why not.
