Tracey was pretty sure she knew how this was going to end. Despite Remus' reassurances, she couldn't shake the feeling in her gut that this was going to end poorly, that she'd been deluding herself into thinking that she could have something with anyone, let alone the only girl she'd ever really loved. As much as she preached about self-acceptance and not letting anyone treat her or other werewolves differently for that fact alone, and as much as she liked to pretend that she would react violently to things, her greatest fear was turning or killing someone. And if that someone was her girlfriend...she wouldn't be able to live with herself, regardless of whether her partner lived. Remus did have a point about her dream not necessarily being a warning against the entire relationship; after all, she couldn't attack Daphne in their home if she never actually allowed herself to be lulled into a false sense of security by the idea that love could conquer all. If she never agreed to transform at home, she couldn't endanger Daphne's life--or the life of anyone she was with. On the other hand, after calming down, she could see the appeal, how she could be talked into it. The idea of being safe at home, of being surrounded by her life and the things that comforted her, being in the presence of someone she loved....Transformations were as lonely as they were painful and exhausting, and the allure of being able to alleviate just one of those things was strong. Which made her wonder if another werewolf was the only kind of person she could ever be with. Maybe she did need to be with her own kind. For almost a decade, Remus had been the only other wolf she knew, and the decade before that, she hadn't known any. Now she knew Galinda too, but she was pretty sure there was nothing between them. Tracey thought she could see it, if maybe things were different, if Galinda didn't have a kid or Tracey was willing to eventually step-parent, if she wasn't still hung up on her ex, if it seemed like Galinda was more interested. Tracey couldn't begin to imagine a life with Galinda, only a life with someone like Galinda. Which left her...well, basically nowhere. She could be alone for the rest of her life, and that would be fine, but it wouldn't be great. Wolves were social creatures, and Tracey needed people, even if she refused to admit it out loud. Daphne felt like one of hers, and it was rare for her to feel that strongly about someone. So other than continuing to tell her that it wasn't a good idea for them to be together, Tracey didn't really know what else to do. It was that indecision that made her later than she said she was going to be, so she wasn't at all surprised to see lights on in her trailer and the shadow of a person inside it. Taking a deep breath, she opened the door and stepped up inside, hitting her boots on the edge of the doorway to get rid of excess dust and dirt. "Sorry I'm later than I thought," she said, but not really offering anything by way of explanation. If asked, it was the dragons. |
