So long, sweet summer...
Who: Alexandra and Remus
What: First day back
Where: Hogwarts
When: Wed 24th Aug (backdated)
Status: Closed/Complete
Warnings: None
Alexandra Warrington was not a morning person. Ever. And sadly teaching meant that she had to be one. Because you couldn’t teach when it was best for you. Mentally sending her thoughts to her students that had her for morning classes, made her way through the halls of the school, muttering to herself under her breath and making notes on her lesson plans. She wasn’t sure who else had moved in - but she was hoping that some of them would be up for dinner tonight somewhere other than the Great Hall.
Making her way by memory through the halls, she dodged the statues and sighing she thought she was in the clean until she ran into a solid person, “Oh fuck all, by Rowena’s garters can you not stand in the middle of the hallway?” She looked up from where she had landed on her backside and rolled her eyes, “Lupin. Help a lady up hmmm?”
Remus laughed softly, holding his mug of coffee very carefully out of the way. He’d been peering at a rather interesting shaped crack on the wall - one he was positive hadn’t been there before the summer break. So yes, perhaps he should have looked where he was going.
“Alexandra. Might I suggest looking where you’re going, rather than at,” he tilted his head to read her writing, “lesson plans for October?” He was grinning as he helped her to her feet, handing back her lesson plans with a nod of his head.
Sticking her tongue out at him, she rolled her eyes, “It’s a wall Remus. I promise you that you have seen it before.” She ruffled his hair and grinned at him, “And you brought me coffee…?” She made grabby hands for his cup, “Share? Please?”
Seeing Remus made her happy - one it meant that someone she enjoyed working with was back in the castle. Two it meant that some eye candy was back in the castle and it also meant that she could steal his coffee. Because she needed it more than he did.
“You know you have missed me and my coffee needs over the summer.”
“Mmmm, one of the many familiar walls in this castle,” he murmured wryly. “That, however,” he gestured to the crack with his mug. “Is new.” As Alex reached for the mug he moved it out of her reach, laughing softly. “Oh no. This coffee is all mine. You haven’t earned my coffee yet.” Remus was quite precious about his coffee; especially the private stash he kept in his office. During term-time it was for emergencies; but he’d decided to treat himself; fortifying himself for his first day back at the castle, planning lessons.
Desperate times called for desperate measures, she let her eyes get sad and she moved closer to him, “But Remus….I am so tired….and the classrooms are so far away…..” She rested her head on his bicep, batting her lashes up at him, “And your coffee is right here.” She let her lower lips tremble a bit.
“And you have missed me soooo much. You know you have.”
Remus sighed, looking up at the ceiling as if asking it what he’d done to deserve this. To be tortured by Alexandra Warrington. He made the mistake of looking down at her, just as she leant her head on his arm, big sad eyes looking up at him.
“Wicked harridan,” he grumped, taking a large slurp of his coffee and then handing her the mug. There was no point in just offering her a sip; he knew he wouldn’t see the mug back again. Not with any coffee in it, at least. The grumping was mostly for show; he had missed Alex, but she would think something was wrong if he was too happy to see her. Even if it was true.
Takes the mug happily and sips it with a decadent moan of approval, “You are my favorite co-worker Professor Lupin.” She kissed his cheek and cupped the cup like it was a rare and delicate treasure. She had missed him. They had owled on occasion and had a run in or two - but it wasn’t like it was here. She had missed them here. She took another sip and did a happy dance.
“I didn’t think anyone else would be here so early….and ….” She gave him a hurt kitten face, “A harridan? You are so mean to me…”
Remus coughed to hide a laugh as she did a little happy dance, rubbing his mouth with his hand.
“At this precise moment in time,” he pointed out, “I’m your only coworker...I’m not sure anyone else is back yet.” He certainly hadn’t seen anyone else; and that was rather how he liked it. It gave him peace and quiet to set up his classroom, plan his first few weeks of classes. And if he felt like taking a break and having a nap in the back of his classroom - there was no one to see. Or judge.
Of course, there was also no one to talk to. And for all that he was a solitary sort, he did like the option of company. As company went, Alex was a very pleasant option.
Rolling her eyes, she kept sipping his coffee, “Of course I am.” She looked down at her feet and wiggled her toes in her flip flops, “Do you think i would DARE wear these if there were more of us. I thought you wouldn’t be in till next week. At the earliest.” She liked to get her unpacking done before the great move in occurred, that way she could just close her doors and not deal with the insanity.
And if she got in early enough she could get the new OWL outlines so when owls from parents started to arrive she knew what she was saying.
“I think though - that you need to take me to dinner tonight to make it up to me.”
Remus grinned. “I happen to think those look very stylish. The chipped nail polish adds a certain something.” Folding his arms, he arched an eyebrow. “I’ve given you my coffee, and you want dinner on top of that as well? I don’t recall doing anything that terrible...” He was teasing, and it was obvious. He had very little guile when it came to playfully teasing friends. When it mattered...well, that was another thing entirely. The fact that he thought Alexandra was beautiful - well, he could play that off as having eyes. There were many men, no doubt, who thought she was beautiful. Any other feelings Remus might have had were irrelevant; he’d never consider pursuing them.
“No, not because you have done anything horrible. But because you have missed me. And because you know that buttering me up now with free food will make it easier for me to cover your detention nights later.” The younger teacher grinned up at him and pulled away with his coffee mug, “And you won’t get your coffee mug back till I get dinner so….”
She gave him a teasing grin, “So will that be a yes?”
Never let it be said that Remus didn’t know when he was beaten. Sighing once more, he nodded. “I suppose if it’s the only way to get my mug back...I’ll just have to tolerate your presence a little longer.” Turning, he offered Alex his arm. “Shall we, Professor Warrington?” The staffroom, and more (if inferior) coffee awaited the two of them.
