DMLE Changes Tactics
Kelline Henders, Senior Investigative Reporting
As has been reported on the events that took place during the World Cup on the 23rd July, the appearance of the Dark Mark has been under investigation. The Prophet has reported that Sirius Black, the heir to the Black family, has been brought in for questioning.
The DMLE are still referring to this as only ‘questioning’ but we have been made aware that Mr Black is being held due to his lack of cooperation. His solicitor, Mr Melthorne Tidwell, noted that he believes his client will be cleared of all wrongdoing.
Mr Tidwell also proceeded to call the practices of DMLE into question, stating that they ‘stopped searching for truth’ in order to opt for the ‘easy answer’.
He is not the only one to question the way this investigation has been run. Some have expressly stated that putting Auror James Potter in charge is a conflict of interest, something that after a lot of political pressure, has been heard in the DMLE.
Auror Potter has been replaced on the case by Crouch Sr himself, who has been quoted saying that ‘Potter is a fine investigator and was doing all in his power to bring this case to a close’. Crouch Sr suggested that the replacement came amid concerns of transparency and commitment towards the case.
However, rumours have been ripe that Potter was removed from the case due his explicit favouritism towards Black. When asked, Potter himself refused to answer and clarify the issue.
Now with Crouch Sr himself on the case, some might feel reassured that the DMLE are doing their most to investigate the Dark Mark and any connection Sirius Black may hold to it.
Others, however, may question why Potter was put on the case and then removed from the case? There may also be questions of why finding out who cast a Dark Mark has been such a long process?
And really, do we trust this to be investigated by an organisation that willingly put Potter in charge of questioning his own best friend?
