Mary-Anne's comment about future selves immediately sent Cedric off with thoughts of the alternate universes, but given that he'd apparently died aged 16 in his, it didn't seem very appropriate to bring up. It was a shame, because Cedric was still fascinated by the theoretical and historical implications. Really, if he thought he'd have any chance of getting in he'd be knocking on the Department of Mysteries' door for a chat. Shaking himself out of those thoughts - though not before a noticeable time had passed - he looked back at Mary-Anne. "I don't think I'd have believed Xavier would be in a rock band either," he said. And for himself? He certainly would have struggled to believe he had a child out of wedlock. Would he have told himself to be more careful about contraceptives? No, as much as Cedric was currently frustrated with Jun, he couldn't just wish Cathy out of existence, not even hypothetically.
"Your family sounds like mine," he told Mary-Anne, laughing. "My mum's a vet, my dad's at the Ministry, and we're a boy and two girls." They were even in the same order - boy first, then two sisters. "I have a few cousins, but not what I'd call a lot. Whereabouts do your parents live?"
