To be completely and totally honest, Lydia wasn't sure if Higgs would just stand up and walk out of this cafeteria on her. To be frank, it probably would have been an appropriate response to this woman he had known less than a year questioning his mental health. Not only did she question his mental health, she was talking about another version of himself. Maybe Lydia was the one who needed the mental health check. However that wasn't what Higgs did. Instead he laughed at her? Well that was certainly a sign to the state of his mental health if nothing else what.
Maybe. Well that wasn't a total dismissive statement and she would take it. Lydia wasn't trying to come from a naggy annoying perspective, she really cared and was worried about him. Sure she wasn't married to him in this universe but he had become one of her closest friends and she didn't want him fighting with himself. She saw hope in the Higgs of the alternate universe and had hope for him here.
"Good," she nodded after taking another bite of her salad, "that's an excellent start." To know that he had done at least something to help himself was a big relief for her. "If you need anything, someone to research, or to make pies, or to keep talking so you don't have to sit in silence," she joked, "I'm here for you okay?" Her fingers went up to play with one of her earrings, "I know I'm not Alicia, the Flints, or your family but I do care about you and want you to be happy."
