"Well," Arran said, "we can work on that? Either jumping right into things or giving your brain a rest, or both." Arran didn't actually think it was a quality Lydia needed to change, but it was as good an excuse as any to have some spontaneous fun, or some restful mindlessness. And Arran was - which he hoped Lydia knew - responsible enough not to let her do anything actually stupid in pursuit of a little recklessness.
He smiled, pleased that he'd been able to offer some helpful advice. "We're trying to get to know Lottie's new boyfriend at the moment," he said. "Oliver and I took him for a drink, and he met Celia alone first." It hadn't, so far as Arran could tell, really helped, but then he did think Lydia would probably make a better impression.
Arran should his head. "I'd have just wanted to be flying," he said. "And it took me ages to get used to not being able to talk about -" He stopped himself, remembering they weren't alone. "Well, it was difficult for our parents to keep an eye on all of us, I guess."
