If George expected a verbal response, Alicia didn't have one. There really wasn't anything to say. She hadn't yet been able to verbalize the words at all, much less confirm what he finally understood. To say them would make it real, and though the heaviness she felt was very much real, Alicia still couldn't bring herself to give that final acknowledgment. Part of her hoped that if she never said it, she could deny it ever happened and maybe he would change his mind. Maybe if he knew...but Alicia couldn't talk to him, couldn't tell him how devastated and wrecked she was. What if he didn't care--how would she feel then? No, she couldn't talk to Terence. She could barely talk to anyone.
