One just did not refuse Daisy Potter, especially when she had an idea in her head, so when her uncle gave no response to the ward she'd left for him, she gave him no choice. Sashaying into the Hound’s Pint, Daisy flashed the bartender a smile and found her own way to Sirius’ office.
“Knock, knock.” Daisy leaned against the door. “Do you have time for your favorite niece? If not, I hope you’ll make time anyway.”
Sirius looked up from his bookwork and gave Daisy a grin, “Now you know I don’t play favorites - but you are definitely in the top two. Come in and have a seat….” he set the books off to the side, he was more than happy to replace one distraction with another - and Daisy was far more entertaining than bookwork.
“What can I do for you today I wonder….”
Rather than take one of the chairs, Daisy perched on a corner of his desk, green eyes leveled at him. “You only have two so that doesn’t count.” She wrinkled her nose as she caught sight of the books. Yeah, that was hardly entertaining. She was much more important.
“You didn’t answer my ward,” Daisy offered as explanation. “So I have no other option but to assume you agreed to my offer.” Silently, she dared him to disagree with her. Because Daisy would bet that he would choose her over accounting any day. Of course, she never told him exactly what her offer was. Oh well, that’s what made it exciting after all.
He could either go back to doing his bookkeeping - which was not at all interesting. Or he could let his, well one of his, favorite nieces distract him for the afternoon. Or at least part of the afternoon. Sirius really wished all his choices in life were this easy.
“Fine, whisk me away.” Sirius said with a chuckle getting out from behind his desk.
Taking his arm, Daisy tossed her head. “Not even going to ask about my plans? They could be wicked. Dastardly even.” Okay, they couldn’t be that bad when she was with a man who could almost (but not quite) be her parent. Honestly, Daisy really couldn’t be in safer hands. Well, maybe if she were in her mum’s hands, but her uncle was close enough.
Since she didn’t want to stay in the pub and wouldn’t insult her uncle into going to another pub, Daisy settled on a new bistro that open up a few blocks away. It would be good to test it out on another person’s knut.
Sirius rolled his eyes, “Please, you would have to be pretty devious and dastardly to shock me Petal.” He let himself be lead out of his office, saluting his amused bartender on his way out the door, “I think I am willing to take my chances with your plans. He really just wanted to get the hell out of dodge for abit - and distract himself. And Daisy would be perfect for that.
Pulling out her seat for her, Sirius raised a brow, “What made you come looking for me though? I would have thought you would have headed straight for Remus or Peter….”
While it was no secret that her father and her godfather jockeyed for favorite, Daisy merely shrugged. “What make you think I haven’t?” she countered. “But you’re closest to work so really it came down to the fact that you were the easiest to get to.” Patting his arm before sitting, Daisy spread the napkin in her lap and picked up the menu.
She glanced at it and quickly decided what she was having, but did not put her prop down. It served as a useful tool to watch her uncle. This whole investigation was ridiculous, though nobody ever asked her. If anyone bothered to talk to her uncle it was obvious that he wasn't a death eater.
Sirius peered right back over his menu at her and arched his brow curiously, “Okay - I am going to assume that we aren’t going to spend our entire meal behind menus perfecting our mind reading skills.” He set his menu down and sipped his water.
“Now let’s start with you….there has to be something interesting happening.” He wasn’t about to start talking about his things. He wasn’t going to pull James’ family into this mess if he could help it.
There was plenty of interesting things happening, but nothing that Daisy really wanted to share with her parents or people who very well could be parents. The fact that she'd broken up, if one could call it that, with the man she'd been seeing at work made office politics a bit sticky, but it was nothing she couldn't handle. Neville was the man's replacement, of course, but she wasn't quite ready to spill the beans on that just yet. Yes, her siblings knew, but that was for specific reasons.
"They're still debating on where they're sending us for our first baby cursebreaker expedition. Sadly it looks like we'll be going to Crete rather than the Galapagos Islands, but who can really be sad about visiting Crete?" By then the server had come to take their order so Daisy had to surrender her prop. Oh well, she was given a glass of water instead and that served just as well. "I'm hoping they give us a chance to sun and shop. Or I'll take a personal day to do that anyway."
“There is a great bistro kind of place on Crete….I think it’s still there. It was a family run place. Let me know before you leave and I will make sure to get you the name of it.” Sirius said with a grin, “And you taking a day off to shop….color me stunned Petal. For I am truly shocked.”
Taking another sip of his water, Sirius eyed his niece with a small grin, “And you can’t tell me that is all you have going on in your life Daisy….I dare say you are glowing with something other than a possible trip to Crete.”
Daisy snorted. "Are you suggesting that I'm pregnant? Because I'm not." Absolutely positively not. She was far too careful to end up in that position. She wasn't the maternal type and she cared far too much about herself to even think about sticky fingered infants. "But I will take that in the spirit the compliment was meant."
She made a face at her uncle when he just assumed that she would go shopping. "Well what's the point of going all the way out there if I can't enjoy myself?"
“I was trying to suggest that you look happy and content with your life’s direction.” Sirius said with a roll of his eyes, “I am far too familiar with how you Potter women react to it being hinted at that you are pregnant to poke that wasps nest.” He held his hands up, “Swear to Merlin.”
“Also that I might send funds with you for some proper ouzo if you are actually going there.”
Yeah, and how many times had he insinuated that in her mother's direction? Enough to get hexed for his troubles, no doubt. Daisy stuck her tongue out. "Yes, well, generally when people talk about a woman glowing they are referring to the occupied state of her womb." Daisy didn't even want to think about babies lest she jinx something.
She should probably ask Neville about his opinions regarding muggle contraceptives, but considering they hadn't even seen one another naked yet that might be a bit too forward. She made a mental note to ask, however. One couldn't be too prepared
At the mention of gifts of money and alcohol Daisy's whole demeanor changed. "Oh really?" she said sweetly, leaning forward. "I do believe I am 'actually going there,' but the question remains as to when. I should be gone ten days. Up to a week if something goes sideways." And even if it went right ways it could still be two weeks if she made a proper holiday of it at the end. Maybe she should ask Neville to surprise her in Crete even if asking sort of ruined the surprise. Eh. Details. "I am never going to say no to a gift."
“A man pays you a compliment and gets hexed sideways for his troubles. I hardly see how that is in any way fair.” Sirius said with a sad shake of his head, “And you Potter women are very good with the aim…”
Her sweet tone and change in demeanor made him chuckle and shake his head, “I will make sure to get you both then before you leave. I wouldn’t want you to forget one of your favorite uncles now that you are a very busy cursebreaker.” He unwrapped his straw and blew the wrapper at her, hitting her square on the nose.
"You're incorrigible, you know that?" Daisy waggled an accusing finger in her uncle's direction. "And childish. And utterly lovable." Crumpling up the straw wrapper, she tossed it back to him. She might not be a professional quidditch player, but she still thought she had pretty good aim. Daisy proved it as well when it hit him right between the eyes.
While she wasn't officially a cursebreaker… yet, Daisy wasn't about to correct him. "Well my social calendar is about to get a bit more full, so you're quite lucky I was able to pencil you in." Regardless of the fact that she had sought him but rather than the other way around.
“Damn right I am lovable.” Sirius ignored the rest of her statement because it was all things he had heard before. He acted wounded for a moment when the straw wrapper got him between the eyes. Like he had collapsed to the ground when she had ‘tackled’ him as a child. He was more than happy to play along.
However, the mention of full social life had his ears perking up, “Oh am I now...and tell me darling girl - who is replacing me? I seem to remember you telling me I was irreplaceable once upon a time….”
Daisy took comfort in knowing that she had taken him down a time or two when she was a wee one. Small and quick, she'd made it her life's work for several months to be a ninja. She was pretty successful, if she did say so herself. "You must be confusing yourself with Remus," she grinned as their entrees were placed in front of them, "as he did all the voices when it came to storytime."
If he thought he was going to get the newest developments in her life, well, he was going to have to work a bit harder than that. "Oh you know, busy doing this and that." And with that, she took a large bite of her sandwich and let him mull on that for awhile.
