Hermione hadn't really planned for her Friday plans to include going to the Quidditch gala. It hadn't even occurred to her as a possibility. And then Arran had asked if she'd like to go and she had asked why. His explanation of not really having many female friends he could ask but needing a date nonetheless seemed fair and thus Hermione had accepted. Which had left her in a need to take half a day off work in order to make sure she had something acceptable to wear. Hermione wasn't really one to dress up much. That didn't mean she didn't have a nice dress. One always should have at least one nice dress. In fact, Hermione had two. She had ended up choosing the white one for no other reason than it had been the first in her wardrobe.
Of course, along with the dress, Hermione also needed to have her hair look less like it was in an attempt of being tamed. Hermione's hair had always been difficult. Over the years she had learned to manage it better. But it still was mostly managing it rather than anything else. In school it had taken her far too long to learn. To the point where towards the end of her First Year, Hermione had cried at Neville about just how hard it was to get her hair to look nice. This had ended with Neville offering to do it for her. Over the years, her best friend had become excellent at it, too. Which is why Hermione completely trusted him to do her hair for the gala.
"Here," she said handing Neville a hairbrush. They were in the living room of their tiny house, both getting ready for the gala. Taking a seat on a chair so it would be easier for him to reach, Hermione glanced over her shoulder. "I would offer to do your hair, too, but we both know that would just be asking for trouble." Hermione and hair did not agree. Whether it was hers or other peoples.
