WHO: Ken Chambers and Lydia Winters
WHEN: September 1993, twilight
WHERE: Hogwarts grounds
WHAT: QUIDDITCH BUDDIES chatting!
CHALLENGE: Backstory (Tree), Bingo (Twilight, a friend)
The first Quidditch match of the year for Ravenclaw - Ken's first match as a full Chaser for the team - would be coming up pretty soon, and no doubt the students who knew him well were astonished at how hard he was working, not just at practice but at his schoolwork. Ken was not about to be thrown off the team for poor marks, dammit, not when education was so easy to fake if you were as smart as he was. You didn't actually have to learn History to bullshit your way through essays, and he'd always done well on tests. He didn't understand people who didn't, not really. It was simple enough to just stuff the facts into your brain for an hour and then lose them on the paper and never have to think about them again until the end-of-term test.
That was what he was doing now. They'd had an afternoon Quidditch practice and he'd been too overheated afterward to go inside, so he'd taken his broom out of the pitch and settled under a tree to read the assigned chapters in preparation for tomorrow's quiz. It was twilight now, the horizon an amazing mix of purple and orange, the sky above just starting to darken, and he considered the thought that he might leave the tree and go back inside to finish studying. Stretching slightly, he discovered that his leg had fallen asleep and tipped his head back against the tree trunk, glaring up into the branches.
"I blame you," he said severely. "And I blame education."
