With a slight frown, Bethanie paused to consider Hermione's answer. "Do you have a preference as to what department?" Bethanie supposed some people were probably more concerned about leading than about what they were leading, but it wouldn't be the way she approached it personally. Not to mention, she had little interest in anything managerial. She knew she was too conflict-averse to be any good in that kind of a role, even if she did occasionally surprise herself by taking charge.
She nodded along to Hermione's explanation, which confirmed things Bethanie had already suspected. She hadn't been sure wands would eventually need to be replaced, she'd never heard of anyone doing it, but then few of her acquaintance were old enough to need to, she supposed. "Do people sometimes outgrow their wands in terms of compatibility?" she asked, more out of a desire to keep the conversation going than any personal need to know the answer. "I mean, the wand chooses the witch at age eleven, but surely some people change a lot between then and adulthood."
