Starting off the day by running into Arran's baby sister hadn't exactly been Roger's most desired start, but it had gone shockingly a lot better than he would have expected. Which, of course, just raised the question of what Arran had actually told his siblings, since the truth wasn't it. Roger had no doubt that Celia Wood would not have been half as nice to him if she had known what had happened between Roger and her brother. But it also wasn't exactly like Roger could go and ask Arran, so he just filed it away and pretended it didn't matter.
Instead, Roger had concentrated on his meetings. Or well, concentrated as much as Roger could ever really concentrate on a meeting. They were just so boring. Things were still happening. That was pretty much what he had gathered. In six different meetings by the time it was three pm. There had even been a 'working lunch', which was possibly Roger's least favourite thing in the world. Lunch was meant to be time away from work not a part of work. He had effectively managed to escape for about half an hour after, though, going outside to the nearest Starbucks to get some coffee. Thinking about work whilst queueing for overpriced beverages had reminded Roger of Ashleigh's owl earlier in the week, the blow by blow directions of how to file her off-sick form. That had been nice. Roger liked thorough instructions that insured he didn't fuck up.
The thought made him realise that he hadn't actually checked up on Ashleigh since she had come back to work. Not that that was particularly surprising since for all of Roger's title as a managerial consultant he was pretty shit at both managing and consulting. Still, it did make him order a coffee for Ashleigh, too, casting a warming charm on it as soon as he stepped back into the Ministry premises. Once back in the office, Roger headed straight for Ashleigh's desk, putting the cup down as he offered her a grin.
"Coffee for the hardest workers," he informed her, pulling out a chair so he could sit down, raising an eyebrow at her. "Do you take breaks, Spinnet? You should take breaks," Roger told her. He was pretty sure Ashleigh didn't take breaks. He was pretty sure all Ashleigh did was work really very hard. Personally, he didn't get it and whilst Roger didn't advocate doing as little work as he did, he could still see a value in having breaks. Maybe that could be his job, enforcing regular intervals of not work.
