"I suppose I could always make James buy me a new toaster, assuming I needed one. Which I really don't. A new kettle doesn't sound too bad, though, I don't suppose a person can have too many of those." She quirked a teasing grin that turned into one of fondness as Evan continued with his not-apology.
"You and your sister are an incredible team," she mused, "and I had expected you to tell her, because that is what you do." She turned slightly and propped her head on her fist, elbow on the back of the couch. "I miss having someone like that. Your dad doesn't count."
Honestly, she'd been thinking a dinner or something, but she liked the beach idea, and so she brightened. "Yes! I think that sounds like the best idea."
