The days before the full moon was always a tumultuous time for Tracey. She was emotional and on edge, and she tried to steer clear of people as much as possible. She hung out with the dragons more than usual, and spent less time at home. This particular moon, it was especially bad because her dad's girlfriend insisted on being around all the time; Tracey had asked him not to tell her, mostly because she was afraid of the woman blabbing her mouth, either as gossip or prejudice or whatever, so they couldn't exactly be too sneaky or weird about it without arousing suspicion. And if she insisted on sleeping over the next night, well...Tracey wasn't entirely sure where she was going to spend the night, then. But that was tomorrow's problem. Today's problem was getting her usual last-minute things. Pepper Up, caffeine, mild painkiller, comfort food, etc etc. All the things she liked having the day after to help her feel better. Which meant a trip to Diagon was in order. Tracey usually tried to keep those trips short, as her temper was always volatile, and she was just as likely to rip someone's head off as she was to roll her eyes; this evening, however, as she was hurrying about her business, there was something different. Something in the air. There were so many people about (it was Friday, after all) that she almost missed it, but every couple minutes, she'd catch a whiff. She looked around, wondering if it was her imagination, or if perhaps Remus was in the Alley getting supplies too. But whenever she looked, she never saw him. Eventually, the scent began to linger, and became something real. It definitely wasn't her imagination. There was a werewolf in the crowd somewhere. This probably wasn't that big a deal to most other werewolves, but Tracey had only ever met Remus, and one in Romania. They weren't really a common occurrence, which made her very interested in one whenever she met them. She wanted to at least find this wolf; it could be some guy that she'd hate, or someone dangerous, but maybe it would be someone she could actually talk to about their shared condition. That was why she wanted to find out who it was. She followed the scent trail, moving along the people in the crowd, until she zeroed in a girl with brightly colored hair. The scent was strong, now. It had to be her. Now, some people probably would have apologized and introduced themselves, but that wasn't really Tracey's style. Once she was sure, she went up to the girl and grabbed her arm. "I know what you are. You should come with me." |
