As much as Lydia's words that considering Higgs' past his feelings weren't wrong, Higgs did still feel like perhaps they were. If he was a better man, he would trust Alicia when she said she had no intention of rekindling whatever it had been she had with Weasley. Or even more importantly, Higgs would trust her when she said that he was all she wanted. But as it was, those weren't things he felt no matter how much he wanted to. "I don't want to tell her who she can and cannot see," Higgs admitted softly. "I don't want to be the man who makes those choices for his wife," and that really was rather crucial to Higgs. As much as he might not want Alicia and Weasley to hang out, the guilt for thinking that felt a lot worse.
"I'm glad you trust him," Higgs said honestly, reaching out to give Lydia's hand a squeeze. It really did please him that she had managed to build a relationship with Weasley that seemed to function on a lot of trust and affection. "I don't mean to come to you and tell you that I think your boyfriend would be unfaithful to you with my wife," Higgs added seriously, frowning slightly at his own words. Was that what he was doing? "Perhaps I shouldn't have spoken to you," he commented more to himself than to Lydia. Higgs had planned to speak to Pippa anyway, maybe he should have just straight gone to her. But then, he had very much wanted to know what Lydia's opinion was on the whole thing.
Wetting his mouth with the beer, Higgs shrugged. "I'm sorry, I don't mean to burden you with my own worries," he said apologetically. "Especially not when they so obviously concern your relationship," because that felt rather unfair and Higgs never intended to be unfair.
