Since Wednesday, when Evan had spent far too long not sleeping and had forgotten about his promise to see Andrew, Evan had been studying just as hard but at a better pace. It helped to have Andrew remind him that food existed and that sleep was necessary. That was helpful and nice. What was less helpful and nice was Andrew's presence. At first, Evan had thought it'd be great to have Andrew there whilst he studied. Noise didn't bother Evan so it wasn't like Andrew couldn't just get on with whatever he did when Evan wasn't there, sat on a floor surrounded by books. It turned out that the noise and whether it was or was not bothersome was the least of Evan's problems.
Fidgeting. There was no other way Evan could describe it. Just shifting and tapping and existing. Which was a bit harsh, Evan was sure, but it almost felt like Andrew's unhappiness at being trapped in such a small space just oozed across the room, making the air thicker and more uncomfortable, and it was slowly but steadily driving Evan absolutely insane. In theory this had worked perfectly. Evan would study and Andrew would do whatever and then they'd eat and maybe make out and at night times they'd sleep. Great. Except it wasn't.
It felt like Andrew came around out of obligation. He brought books or notes or papers or whatever to entertain himself, except that Evan wasn't convinced Andrew actually felt all that entertained. And it made Evan feel guilty. It made him want to push all his books away and take Andrew on a day out. Maybe go see the ponies in New Forest, something. Anything. Except Evan had to study and Andrew really didn't have to sit through it. Not when Evan was starting to feel Andrew did it out of obligation and Evan, well, Evan didn't do well with being an obligation.
Today Andrew had come over just after twelve, which in a way was actually a relief because Evan had been able to just get on with his exam prep without feeling bad. It was now an hour later and Evan was honestly contemplating setting his books on fire if the tapping didn't stop. Or maybe setting Andrew on fire. Most likely the books. Probably. It wasn't even the sound, it was more the... sensation. The restlessness that Andrew brought with him that usually Evan didn't mind, quite liked, actually, but right now he felt like he was the cause of it, and he couldn't fix it because he had to study.
Evan gave a deep sigh, pushing the pile of books around him away so he could get up from the floor, before making his way over to the bed where Andrew was sat, back against the headboard. Slowly, Evan crawled onto the bed and then over Andrew, stopping only when their faces were close enough for Evan to kiss Andrew's lips. "Okay, listen," Evan said slowly when he pulled back, but only enough so that he could look at Andrew whilst he spoke. "It's great that you're here. You've made sure I eat and sleep and don't die in general, that's awesome," which it was since 'not dying' was pretty high on Evan's list of priorities. "But I am coming exceptionally close to beating you with a book because you don't want to be here," Evan said and before Andrew could say anything in response, Evan carried on. "And that's okay, yeah? I don't mind. You should go out and do fun things with your friends or your band or anyone that isn't currently revising for their exams," he continued. "And then when you're tired you should come back and we can kiss and things and sleep," Evan instructed, before briefly brushing his lips against Andrew's again. "I'm going to still be here when you come back," he added with a touch of a smile on his lips.
