With work jumping between a straight nine to five for some days and then ridiculous call outs and extra hours for other days, Higgs really hadn't had a great chance to see anyone. He still wasn't happy with the job, but at least when the call outs and extra jobs happened, it was rather easy to forget why he disliked it. Keeping busy was good, it was the days that didn't keep him busy that concerned Higgs. It just didn't feel like he was contributing a great deal to, well, anything. But he still had no idea what he could do as an alternative that wasn't just going back into the army (and that wasn't an option no matter how much he had to stop himself from considering it as one).
Today had been one of those empty days, the days when Higgs mostly got to fill forms and write reports. This was why just after lunch he had sent Ashleigh an owl, asking if she would like to go out dancing that evening. It had been months since they last went dancing together and honestly, Higgs was pretty sure it had also been about as long since they even spoke to each other last. He had offered to pick her up from work, like he had last time, and go to the same restaurant/bar they had went to before. It was in Muggle London, not far from the Ministry, which meant that it was a quick walk away. They already knew that both the space and the music was good for dancing, so Higgs didn't see any reason to find somewhere else.
There was also a part of Higgs that had picked the place because last time it had been fine. As much as he didn't like admitting it, Higgs did pay a lot more attention to how loud, bright and noisy places were. He knew what the triggers were, knew what the risks were. The Latin bar had seemed like a good choice because nothing had been too much last time. Higgs hadn't quite anticipated the place being busier than last time. It was the same level of bright and the same level of loud but somehow it just seemed more.
With a shake of his head, Higgs offered Ashleigh a smile as they stepped out on the dance floor. "It's busier than before," Higgs commented, rather stating the obvious with that. He wasn't sure what else to say that wasn't 'maybe we should leave' and they hadn't even danced yet, so he had no reason to suggest they leave. None that he wanted to bring up, anyway.
