Being in a clearing with Merlin, with the other boy holding him as he struggled to tell him thank you before dying in his arms. That was the last thing that Arthur remembered before his world went black. If only he had another minute or two in his life, there was going to be something else that he wanted to tell him, something that he didn't even feel for Guinevere. All of Camelot knew it - from the youngest child all the way up to and including his queen, which was good because as his luck would have it, she didn't feel the same for him either, so they kept up the false pretense of being in love with each other. But Arthur couldn't deny it: he was in love with Merlin.
So when he awoke in this strange place, Arthur swore up and down that he was going to find Merlin and tell him. But how he was going to was beyond him. That was, until, he found the device to get the sorcerer's attention in hopes that he was here too. And again, as his luck would have it, he was, but they were separated. The only problem now was to try and find him.
As Arthur walked out of the room that he was placed in, he took note of the room number. He was on the second floor of this place, and Merlin was on the floor above him. Finding a staircase, he walked carefully up them, yet quickly at the same time, afraid that if he didn't get to him in time he'd go back to being dead. As he made it up to the third floor, Arthur could barely make out the numbers that were in front of him. A small placard showed that some rooms were off to the right, while others were to the left. Taking the hallway to the right, he walked down the hallway, his heart thump-thumping loudly that he thought that it was come out of his chest.
"Merlin?" he called out, asking for him. "Merlin?!" But it was then that it hit him. Maybe he didn't go by that name anymore. He heard Morgana call him by a different name than Merlin before his death and maybe - just maybe - he was going by that one now. "Emrys?" Arthur asked, finding it strange to call Merlin by his Druid name. He wasn't one hundred percent on board with finding out that Merlin had magic, but he knew that he would adjust to the fact. Rooms 304 to 308 passed by before seeing the shape of Merlin, still wearing that stupid red neckerchief. A million phrases and actions ran through his mind before he spoke, his tone almost gentle and soft.
