Willow Gen Fic - PG13 for dark themes -
By the River Dark
I did not know
And I could not see
Who was waiting there,
Who was hunting me.
Willow tilted her head as if listening to a silent scream, a satisfied smile etched her features. “Aww, Buffy. I knew it would come to this.” Her dark hair blew in a preternatural wind as she raised her hands high above her head. “You’re going to lose this one.” The spell was already spinning in her mind that would keep Buffy and Dawn occupied while she got rid of everyone’s pain, including her own.
She knew the instant that the spell had succeeded since Willow could feel the power of it through the earth. “Deal with that.” The satisfied smile she’d worn earlier returned with a determined gleam in her eye. Willow really didn’t want to hurt Buffy, she wanted her friend to die fighting when the world was swallowed. This was killing two birds with one stone, metaphorically speaking. Giving Buffy a warrior’s death and a distraction away from Willow. The witch knew the only person that could probably defeat her was Buffy, and she wanted her out of the way.
What she hadn’t counted on was Xander. In all the contingencies that she’d come up with, with how she might possibly be defeated, the love of her best friend had never entered the equation. When Willow saw Xander standing on the hillside, she had laughed until she heard his voice. He wasn’t there to stop her, but to be with her. Willow felt the iced wall around her heart begin to crack with his steadfast love and that was all it took.
There was no greater weapon against the darkness than the light of love.
