RP: Home sweet home
Characters: Corey, poking Booth
Time/Date: Morning, April 2
Location: her room/kitchen area
Warnings/Rating: None
Summary: Corey arrives and meets her neighbor
Status: Private, ongoing

Corey had been surprised when she'd she'd come in from her patrol and found herself in an office-like room instead of her house. She'd listened to the video, seen her contract on the screen, and gone through to meet with her ... well, commanding officer. Head doctor. Whichever. She knew when she'd signed the contract, but things were different now. She was happy with her life, and not an angsty teen, but ... well, she only had to stay here for three months. If she didn't like it, she could go back.

Shouldering open the door to her room, she stepped in and looked around. It wasn't bad. It was at least as nice as her place back home. She sighed quietly as she dropped her uniform on the foot of her bed. She figured she'd go check out the hospital later, after she bought some clothes and got herself settled in her in room.

She found the bathroom, explored the living area, and then ventured into the kitchen. Here she paused, because the place looked ... well, like it was in use. Like it had been in use for a little while. So that meant she had a neighbor. She wondered if she should say hi first or later, and decided she could at least knock and see if he was in.

Crossing to the door to the adjoining room, Corey rapped her knuckles against it, listening to see if she could hear anyone on the other side. For all she knew, he was out on some sort of mission or something and wasn't even in today. She guessed she'd find out though.

There was an old adage that said once you'd been a soldier, you were always a soldier, and there were times when Booth believed that was definitely the truth. Like when he'd felt like he was in a deep, happy sleep and the a soft knock on his door and suddenly he was wide awake and ready for action.

It was confusing though, because he hadn't been expecting any visitors, and that wasn't the kind of knock that you'd expect from a commanding officer (or subordinate on official business, for that matter). But all the same, he shucked on the pants that he'd discarded before bed the night before, and moved towards the door.

Huh. There wasn't anyone in the hall. He didn't think he'd dreamed the knock. He stepped out into the hall to be sure but... he didn't see anyone who looked like they could have just been knocking at his door. He looked at the door itself, but he didn't see any notes attached to it. But he could have...

His attention was drawn to the two rooms on either side of his, and then to the door that adjoined his room and the kitchen area. Did he have a new roommate? Closing his door to the hall, he moved towards the other instead, mostly just curious at this point (and wanting to assure himself he wasn't crazy, and he had in fact heard a knock).

He wasn't sure what he'd been expecting when he pulled the door open, but it hadn't been what he did see. His mouth kind of fell open slowly, and he blinked once or twice, now not sure if he was actually awake. Maybe his mind had cooked up this whole thing for him because of having not slept well the last few nights.

"Hi," he managed after a moment, once he remembered that it wasn't polite to stand in the doorway to your room and just stare at a pretty girl. He managed a half chuckle of incredulousness, and then said, "Are you the new 106 occupant?"

Smooth, Seeley. Real smooth.

Corey wasn't real sure what she'd expected either, but she was a little startled to find a guy. "Progressive. The co-ed army," she quipped before she shook her head a little. "No, I'm actually a fugitive and I just broke into the room next to yours and thought I'd announce my presence with a knock and then stand here and wait."

She sucked in her cheeks and shook her head again. "Sorry. Just ... wasn't expecting to be displaced last night. Or ... this morning, here, I guess." Really, she figured after she shopped, she'd nap. "Just wanted to give you a heads-up that ... uhm. You had a neighbor. So you didn't freak out if you came into the kitchen and I was here."

She sighed. This was starting off remarkably well. "Hi, I'm Corrine. Corey's fine. I just arrived this morning, and I'm part of the Infirmary division." She held out her hand to him and offered him a slightly lopsided smile. "I ... am sorry if I woke you up."

He grinned. "It is 2711, we're doing away with those old patriarchal ways of segregating men and women," he said, proud of himself for using a big word like segregating and patriarchal correctly. He half leaned against the doorframe when she mentioned she was a fugitive, chuckling once. "Shame. I wouldn't have minded a roommate."

He nodded, his expression turning more serious when her subject turned more serious. "Not a lot of us were expecting it when it happened. You find your way around okay? There's... actually I have no idea what I have in the fridge. Booze, if you want it," he grinned a bit sheepishly. "Help yourself to what ever you find, I can always buy more."

He nodded, shifting so that he was standing up straight and could shake her hand. "Seeley Booth, front lines," and it was still sort of hard to not add Special Agent to his title, even if the term meant nothing here. "It's nice to meet you Corey." He ran a hand through his hair, which was a little messy and felt suddenly extremely self conscious. "I suppose saying, 'no! you didn't wake me up!' would be obvious for the lie it was," he grinned. "Don't worry about it. Went to bed early last night, and I probably shouldn't waste away a day off anyway."

"And it only took a little over seven hundred years. Go, this place." She grinned slightly before laughing. "Well. I guess dreams do come true. Consider yourself plus one roommate."

Corey shook her head. "Haven't been out yet. I just now wandered in from the office to set my stuff away before I wandered out to see what was around. I have the map they gave me, so I figure I'll at least be able to find the places that give me food and the place I can buy more uniforms." Because just one wasn't going to work for her. "Sure," she replied to his offer of raiding the fridge. "Maybe I'll put groceries on my list of things to buy while I'm out."

She regarded him when he introduced himself, almost like she was waiting for something. Seeley, really? She resisted the urge to ask him if he had flippers. "Is that a nickname? Or ... did your parents really name you Seeley? I ... sorry. I'm not usually this rude. I'm just ... cranky. I've never heard that name before." She was at least glad to hear she hadn't disturbed his sleep too much. She nodded and offered him a smile at his assurance it was fine.

He grinned a bit, half chuckling at her comments, pleased that at least they hadn't stuck him with someone dull or anti-social.

He thought about making some sort of offhand comment about being the first person she really got a chance to talk to, and wasn't he lucky, or didn't that suck for her, but he couldn't find the right words, so he just nodded to her statements. "If there's anything you want, you know, we can make a list or something? I mean, I could... keep this place stocked better. And, ah..." he darted in absently grabbing one of his dirty shirts off the back of one of his chairs, looking a bit embarrassed about it. "Cleaner," he said with a bit of a laugh. His eyes darted around the room, looking for anything else that he could straighten up.

"Yeah, I know it's weird," he said, filling the sink with water to take care of some of the dishes and tossing out some spoiled leftovers from the fridge. "I'd like to say that I'm named after a grandfather who made a great contribution to society, or something, but the truth is... they just thought it was a unique name." Having... put some effort into straightening the kitchen, he turned to face her, leaning against the counter and drumming his fingers against it, waiting for the sink to fill and smiling like there was nothing going on.

Corey watched as he moved around the kitchen, and the attempt to clean it up like she wasn't right there watching him try to clean it up was kind of cute in a completely adorkable way. She pressed the side of her hand to her mouth lightly, green eyes glinting lightly. "Well, we can both do our parts to keep it stocked and clean," she assured him. She reasoned most of her untidiness would be kept to her bedroom or the living area in her room, but who knew? They might be social and become friends and play cards at the kitchen table or something.

"So do you go by ... Seeley or some nickname or ...? I mean, I don't want to go out there and start talking about a Seeley and have everyone stare at me like I just started speaking Turkish or something." She shrugged slightly before she shifted to lean against the kitchen counter beside the filling sink. Her eyes drifted slowly over the rest of the kitchen area before she glanced over to him.

"How long've you been here?"

He nodded, continuing to drum his fingers on the counter before he flipped the sink off when he decided it was full enough, but... he didn't wash them yet. He wanted to act all cool and suave and... he didn't have any dishsoap or anything that he could actually use to wash the dishes anyway, he just wanted to make it look like he was doing something so that she wouldn't think he'd be a messy and horrible roommate. Or something.

"Booth," he said with a sheepish sort of grin. "I mean, I'll respond to Seeley, but most people in my line of work default to last names," he wasn't certain exactly why that was. Maybe because calling each other by their first names had an aspect of familiarity to it that some men weren't comfortable with, or something. Though it did make him wonder if people would look at Corey like she was Turkish if she went out and started referring to him by his given name. He was sure that he'd told it to all the people he'd introduced himself to, but so few people here - read: none - called him by it that he imagined that most of them had forgotten.

"Ohhh about..." he looked around for a calendar, remembered he didn't have on, and stuck his tongue between his teeth as he tried to work it out in his head. He ended up not being able to without using his fingers to count it out. "Going on 7 months," he said finally. "I've renewed twice."

He'd been offered life, but he wasn't going to take it. While he was enjoying himself, there were... people that he thought he'd miss too much back home to give the rest of his life in support of a war that wasn't really his own.

She watched his antics with the sink with some amusement. Not that she didn't appreciate his efforts to impress her or look responsible or whatever he was going for, but it was kind of obvious. "Should I put soap for the dishes on my shopping list?" she asked. She didn't see any in evidence which made her wonder if he'd just run out ... or if he just rinsed them off. She made a note to get her own set of dishes in case it was the latter.

"I don't response to Fisher," she offered with a little grin. "My brother might have in school when he was on the hockey team, but ..." she shook her head. "I'm Corey. Corrine if I'm in trouble." She grinned at that.

She was a little impressed to hear he'd been here that long. "So do you like it here that much, or ... you have some other reason for wanting to renew?" She wasn't sold on the idea of renewing right now, but in three months ... who knew? She might have made some friends or found a lover or any other number of things. She might be devoted to the cause -- or brainwashed.

"Soap would probably be good, yeah..." he said awkwardly, rubbing at the back of his head as he looked at the sink. He was pretty sure he'd had soap once, but he seldom used it. "I..." he grinned a bit sheepishly again before he dropped his hands. "I'll wash these," and by these he meant all the dishes in the kitchen and gestured as such, "if you want to share."

He vaguely wished he'd been given more warning that he wasn't going to be living the bachelor life anymore. He'd have had more time to straighten up.

"I figured," he said with a grin to her statement that she didn't respond to Fisher, though then he realized that could be taken as a sexist comment, and he tried to clarify. "It's more of a... 'front lines' thing, so to speak," he said with a shrug. "Soldiers, sports teams..." he decided he should probably stop while he was ahead before he made things worse.

In response to her question, he shrugged again. "It's not as much... liking being here as..." he frowned. "A lot of... young kids, get tossed into Front Lines here. And while they're... skilled, they don't necessarily have any battle experience, or really know what they're doing. And there needs to be a few people here who actually do know what they're doing." He paused, and then clarified again. "I mean, there are a few, but it's not..." he looked at a spot on the floor as he tried to put it into words. "I don't think I'd be able to look myself in the mirror knowing that I stepped back and let entire groups of young kids get slaughtered just because I missed home."

He looked up at her with a thin smile. "Guess that makes me a bit of an idiot, huh?"

"Well, I wouldn't want to disrupt things in the kitchen too much," Corey offered with a sly smile. "I don't mind doing dishes if you wanted to take turns or something. I mean, if I cook something, I'll clean up my own mess."

She watched him and listened as he stumbled through his explanations, and then nodded to show that she got it. Girls on sports teams sort of did the same thing, but she'd never run with that crowd. It was still kind of adorable.

Her expression sobered slightly as he explained why he was here. "Not ... really an idiot. Noble, I guess. Or altruistic? I think that's the word I'm after. It's a good thing to do. So are you ... like some sort of leader or something out there, or ... it's an unofficial thing? Not like it's going to affect me, but ... hey, making conversation."

"Wouldn't be a disruption," he said with a shrug. "I'll... be better with my..." he gestured around, "stuff, from now on. You know how it is, it's different when you're just impressing yourself."

Okay. That was a stupid thing to say. Where was the life rewind button? He really really wanted to take that back. He cleared his throat, looked the other way, and tried to keep his face from getting red for a moment before he managed to sober up and just look at her normally, pretending as though he hadn't just implied that he was going to try and impress her.

"Altruistic, I like it," he said with a grin before he nodded. "Field leader. It's more of a position offered because of experience. Those of us who yell the loudest..." he spread his hands in a 'what can you do' sort of way. Leaning back against the counter, he nodded his head to her making conversation statement, and said, "So Infirmary. Surgeon, nurse, psychiatrist...? I'll admit I don't know very much about the profession..."

"Right, I get that. I don't bother with makeup when I'm only trying to impress myself. I can see how guys and dishes follow those same rules," she observed with a slight nod. She ducked her head slightly, and reasoned things would level out once they got to know each other and he wasn't so just-woke-up and omg-female-roommate.

Still, green eyes flicked over him, assessing before she smiled and crossed her arms under her breasts.

"Um. I don't ... know. Healer, I guess?" Corey shrugged. "I ... it's an earth-based healing magic. Guess they snagged me because I know how to use a gun and I can heal, so ... bam. Field medic." She wondered if that would impress him -- her knowing how to use a gun -- and she almost rolled her eyes at herself. Well, now they were even.
