Professor Flitwick and Headmaster Dumbledore had taken great pains to make the Great Hall as frightfully delightful as possible. Cobwebs hung in a veil that everyone had to walk through in order to reach the Great Hall, a dense fog rolled inches off the ground, and there were so many realistic decorations that made the edges of the Great Hall appear to be a dark forest that they'd had to close the Great Hall for lunch, instead offering it in the students' common rooms. The effect left it looking as if they were in a clearing in the middle of an ancient forest, and Dumbledore was rather proud of the whole thing, if he did say so himself. There were even faint groans coming from the trees, and every now and then, the illusion of a large spider ran across the spiderwebs decorating the branches.
There was a long table of refreshments - a virtual feast - as well as places for students to sit and enjoy themselves instead of dance. Each bit of food and drink was holiday-themed as well, with 'blood wine' being dyed pumpkin juice, 'brain' being chicken and roast beef, and the typical peeled grapes for eyeballs - except Minerva had taken it upon herself to transfigure them to look as if they really were eyeballs. Even Albus wouldn't touch those.
The music that played alternated between the sort of Wizarding Rock Dumbledore thought was quite popular, as well as creepy bass-inspired music, and even a few Muggle songs thrown in here and there, just for good measure. As it was a masque, anyone without a mask would be provided with one at the door. It was due to be an excellent night, and Albus was extremely pleased with how things were shaping up.
