Things were going far too well. He and Lily hadn't had one of their blistering rows in days, and Scorpius was suspiciously thinking he was actually not disliking the woman anymore. Sure, they weren't best of friends or anything, but he found polite conversation much easier with her, not to mention he was incredibly fond of Amadeus in spite of himself. The puppy was terribly cute, and even though Scorpius didn't admit it, he doted on the thing. In any case, they were actually getting along for the first time in their entire lives. And it was eerie. Scorpius wasa bit afraid, though. Surely one of them would snap and their careful balance would shatter.
He was making dinner as he contemplated the implications of their getting along. Surely they would have to comply if they didn't want to get in serious trouble. But would that help or hinder them on their way to liking each other? Scorpius thought on that as he cooked the pasta and mixed the meat sauce. He figured their compliance would come about in one of two ways. Either they would both get blistering drunk and do the dead and then hate themselves and each other in the morning, or they would both be perfectly sober and agree on it and it would go smoothly (and probably VERY well, if Scorpius' hopes came true) and they would be fine. Who knew at this point anyway?
Scorpius turned his thoughts to the food, not wanting to think too much about sleeping with Lily. He was making a good Italian dinner, complete with salad, was on the menu. It was strange cooking again, but rather comforting in a way. It made the whole marriage thing seem more real, and Scorpius felt a certain sense of accomplishment when he cooked something. Quite like when he made a potion. And it was much easier to cook for two than for one. He was a lazy soul much of the time, but when there was someone else to think of, he certainly met the challenge.
