Swallowing down a lump in his throat at her suggestion, he shifted his eyes away, trying to keep himself from acting in a predictable way. It was just too bad his face flushed to show he wasn't unaffected by her suggestion, "That would put my intentions in question, wouldn't it?" If he understood women, he'd know the nudge was her way of showing she was only teasing him, but instead he was unaware, making this even worse on himself. Especially considering how Faith made it a habit to torture him over his boy scout mindset.
Trying desperately to shift the conversation, Steve continued to explain about the Manor in hopes of keeping his virtues out of their conversation for long, "They won't treat you like you're helpless, just give you some help to find your feet. I wouldn't offer them as an option otherwise. I know you're not the type to be treated like you can't take care of yourself, but a little help can't be such a bad thing, can it?" Maybe by the end of this conversation, he could even convince her that not everyone out here had it out for her, but he wasn't throwing all his chips in on that bet just yet.
