The two coffeehouse patrons would seem like unlikely friends. While Faith may be a little rough around the edges, Steve Rogers was the Forever Good Ol' Boy through and through. He was the type of kid who lied about his condition, just so he could be a soldier in World War II. He wanted to help too. He wanted to be like those other guys putting their lives on the line for America. Some people thought he was lucky. No way would he have been material for the military. He dodged the bullet, excuse the pun. Almost everyone thought he was crazy, because he just wouldn't give up on becoming the next faceless soldier. There was no way he could just sit around and take the easy road. And unlike most of his losing situations, eventually he got a break. That lead to a whole 'nother story. A story that had little relevance now that he was here in Red Oak.
While grabbing his order, he noticed the dame in distress. Just like everything else, he just couldn't ignore it. Putting down his beverage choice, which surprisingly was not coffee, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a twenty. Without counting it, he placed it on the counter, "It's on me. Keep the change, miss."
Then he flashed his do-gooder smile at the woman before grabbing his drink. He knew the change wouldn't be as much good as it would have done in the '40's, but there was at least enough there to get her a decent dinner. He didn't honestly have any need for thanks from her. Steve just like knowing he may have done something to improve someone's day or current position. People seemed to underestimate the power of a random act of kindness these days, but he guessed seventy years was a lot of time for change to occur. He would just have to continue to get used to it.
