Marian found herself appreciating the gentleness of it all, appreciating that, despite everything, Guy didn't force things as, perhaps, another husband would have. And he was trying to be a better man. For all that a light flush rose in her cheeks, Marian wasn't pushing him away. Not yet.
"Thank you," she all but whispered at his pledge to help her. She didn't know what he would do to assist, but it was nice of him to offer.
