Her secret didn't alarm her, it was more the idea of how he would react to her secret, what he could possibly do to her after she confessed.
Marian allowed him to hold her hands for a moment before she took a deep breath, pulling away, standing. She needed to do something couldn't just sit there and look into his eyes and tell him...
"You know I've never agreed with the Sheriff." It was an awkward way to begin and Marian winced inwardly, but she had to keep going, had to force herself to continue lest she completely lose to courage to say this.
"I started off small...I gave my medicine to one of the servants; her daughter was ill. I started giving what I could, taking from our own kitchen, but...there were so many people who needed help." And she couldn't provide for them all.
She was pacing by then, keeping a nervous eye on Guy. "You know the Sheriff doesn't tolerate opposition. I needed to keep a lower profile...I began borrowing from the Sheriff's stores...and making deliveries at night." Did she really need to say it?
