Who: Ares, God of war and a npc clerk at IDPD
Where: The IDPD building.
What: Ares offers his services to the IDPD
Rating: PG
Notes: permission was given to me by the MOD for this bit of silliness.
Why this was a big deal was because... The IDPD didn't have automatic doors.
And as Ares passed through a metal detector for some reason it ceased functioning long enough for him to walk through it.
Fortunately, there wasn't a line at the desk so Ares didn't have to be rude by taking his due and cutting in front of any mortals that might have been there.
The clerk behind the desk didn't look up immediately causing Ares to lightly rest his right hand on the pommel of his sword. Yes, Ares walked into a police office building carrying his infamous sword of War.
Never leave home without it.
No, seriously. The sword contained a large portion of his God powers so Ares couldn't be without the sword at his hip without feeling entirely neutered.
Eventually the man behind the desk looked up and frowned when he saw the large imposing sword and where Ares' hand was resting. After a moment, Ares gave a slight tilt of his head to acknowledge the mortal and removed his hand to settle for crossing his arms over his chest.
"Can I help you sir?" The clerk asked.
"I wish to offer my services to your cause."
The clerk puzzled for a moment. "Oh, you mean you want to apply for a position with IDPD?"
Ares gave a half shrug. "You say 'din'ar' and I say 'de'nar'. Same thing."
The clerk had no idea that a dinar was a coin in his Ares' home realm but he also shrugged it off as being inconsequential and continued. "And what services do you have to offer sir?"
Ares looked down on the man. He was after all seated at a desk while Ares was standing, not that Ares wouldn't have looked down on him if they both had been standing. "I run a martial arts templ... er school and wish to offer my services to train any hunters or slayers you employ for free. Also my .. school has full exercise equipment and an armory so your recruits may hone their bodies and equip their weapons needs if they so desire to. I am also quite skilled in custom and unique weapons manufacturing if they wish something a little more exotic in that area."
The clerk blinked. "Um, okay. Let's fill out an application and it will be up to the boss to see if she wishes to hire you."
Ares thought even refusing to accept his generous offer was insulting but he was learning to develop his 'people's skills' as his sister Aphrodite would say, and only shrugged.
"First name?" The clerk asked as he pulled over a form and prepared to fill it out for the strange man dressed in black leather. Normally he would just have given the form and directed them to take a seat and fill it out themselves but... It was a slow day so far and truth be told he both bored and curious about the man in front of him and decided to fill it out for him.
"Ares." The God of War replied.
"Last name?" clerk said after writing.
"God of War."
The clerk raised an eyebrow. "I thought God of War was some guy named Kratos?" He said making a video game reference.
Ares.. Wasn't a big gamer. As in he had never even seen a Playstation or X-box and frankly wouldn't know what they were if he had. Oh Mortal Kombat was a game to him all right but in Ares' world it was spelled mortal combat and it had a lot more blood than the video game version and there were no continues or 'extra lives'.
Ares idly wondered if this dimension had its own God of War and if so why didn't this Divinity greet him proper when Ares arrived? Ares would have if another god had shown up in his dimension. It was only proper etiquette. And if the visiting god of war tried to take over Ares' position? Then Ares would have challenged him to a proper fight and exterminated the visiting Deity. That was how things were done.
In response to the clerk's quip Ares merely raised an eyebrow causing the man to move on to the next question.
"Last place of residence in this or your home dimension?"
"Mount Olympus."
"Wait. Wait. Are you making a claim that you are the Greek God of War?" The clerk asked.
"No. I am not claiming it. That would be ridiculous." Ares stated and then added. "I AM the God of War. I have no need to claim the title. It is who I am."
"I... See. Do you have someway to prove your clai..." The man paused as he noticed Ares frowning at him. "I mean can I see some proof? I mean we wouldn't want some crazy person to wander in off the street claiming to be you, now would we?"
Ares thought for a moment and then shrugged. If the mortal wanted proof it would be simple enough to give it to him. Reaching down he unsheathed his sword in one fluid motion.
This of course made the IDPD clerk very nervous and his hand started to inch down to his side arm pistol he was wearing when to his shock the pistol moved under its own violation and pulled free from his holster, only then to swing up in the air supported by nothing and point at him. He heard shouts from down the hall coming from their weapon's lockup and a moment later it seemed like every rifle, gun, and even sword in the IDPD building came flying through the air to point directly at him. The clerk felt a shiver of icy fear run down his spine at the sounds of all the safeties clicking off on the weapons.
Ares gave a casual shrug. "All tools of violence and aggression tend to respond to my will. Its part of being a God of War."
The clerk took a deep nervous breath. "I see. Could you, um, give us back control of our weapons now?"
Ares blinked as if he had forgotten that every weapon was still responding to him at the moment and gave a careless wave of his hand. Instantly the clerk's gun flew back to his holster and slid itself away and out of the corner of his eye he could see the other weapons returning down the hall, one presumes back to their places in the armory. A faint click from his hip let him know that his own gun had toggled on its safety, again by itself.
Ares then slid his own sword back into its scabbard at his side and the clerk immediately felt a weight he hadn't even noticed before lift from him.
Staring at the sword at the, he now had to admit, God of War's hip, the clerk could detect an almost malevolent force that seemed to hover around the blade.
Ares noticed his focus. "The Sword of War has been restless for a while now. There is more..." Ares almost grimaced. "Peace here than back home. It is one of the reasons I am willing to offer my services to your force of authority is to keep it pacified. It would be unsporting if I were to become a hunter but helping to train others should be enough to keep me and the sword from getting too restless.
"It would be bad if the sword got too... restless?" The clerk asked.
"Very bad." Ares replied.
"Well then... Shall we continue with the application?" The clerk asked as he scrambled for his pen. The Ares being was almost as unnerving as his own boss and the sooner her finished the form the faster he could get the God out of the building.
