Kitty blinked in surprise as Seth's demeanor changed almost instantly. Clearly she hadn't expected any of her requests to get through, but Christ she was glad that they had. With a small, relieved sigh, she stepped back again and folded her arms over her chest in a protective gesture, eyes fixed on Seth in case he changed his mind. She could feel a lump forming in her throat and just swallowed hard.
"Lesson learned," she echoed, voice slightly strained as she spoke. Kitty knew better than to argue back this time. Having her views of herself, not to mention the potential future of a relationship completely shattered with only a few carefully chosen words was more than enough for one evening.
"Thank you," she added thickly, biting down on her lower lip as she wondered just why she was apologizing. Thank you for not telling my not-boyfriend about all my imperfections? Something like that anyway. She just took a few more steps backwards until she felt a low stone wall hit the back of her legs, and she sat down very abruptly. Eyes still fixed on Seth, almost afraid to look away, she let out a very fast breath and pushed her hair off her face. She wasn't going anywhere any time soon, most certainly not inside, where she ran the risk of actually seeing people.
