It was a precaution Laura knew was unnecessary, but it could look like a justification for standing at the periphery. The truth was that not knowing these people unsettled her, in their concentration and raw power. There were too many factors still unknown to her, but they were also the only people she could rely on (she hoped) to be competent.
"I am Laura Kinney. I agree we should be prepared. Their silence is a negative sign and possibly an effort to intimidate us by demonstrating the impenetrability of their ships." Laura had already decided to err on the side of caution. If that sounded like paranoia, she didn't know it. It was a jarring statement from a tiny girl in a cropped tank top and a miniskirt wearing far too much eye make-up and wearing her dark hair like a shield around her face, but that was also something someone would have to tell Laura directly before she understood.
