Ah, there was the approval she so desperately sought. One thing that Raven knew that she could rely on at this point was Erik - or, his reaction to her gifts, anyway. She very rarely used her shape shifting abilities as a way of garnering attention or approval. She hadn't even shown anyone until under twenty years ago, that night she had met Charles for the first time. Only a handful of people even knew of the existence of these abilities, and the more time she had spent around those people, the more desire she had to be able to use it - both practically and recreationally. The small flickers of positive emotional responses from Erik were enough to have her smiling like it was her birthday and closed the door behind him.
Yes, she still hadn't made the step forward to flaunting her natural form as such. She was still standing in front of Erik as a blonde girl of her late teens, not the blue skinned red haired form that she knew Erik appreciated. Accepting yourself for who you were took time, she was making some massive positive steps but the lessons of a lifetime didn't change in a day. She was still hiding, still wearing a full body mask and while she hated the metaphorical itching of hiding herself for so long, she wasn't ready to take that step just yet.
"Checking on me?" Raven's eyebrow rose and she set down her 'weapon' of choice on the table before moving to sit down on the couch too. "I'm not a child, Erik, I promise. I can handle myself." She laughed, but she couldn't deny that it was good to see familiar faces. Granted it hadn't been long, but the little time she had spent alone in this strange town had been more than enough for her. That awful jarring feeling of being isolated when she was just getting used to the idea of a family had almost been more than she could bear, and if she hadn't thrown herself so solidly into any distraction she could think of (some evidence of this still sitting on the table in the form of empty cupcake wrappers) she wouldn't have coped with the separation at all.
She poked her tongue out, propped her feet up on the table and rest her hands behind her head, flashing a little smirk Erik's way as she gave an oh-so nonchalant shrug. "Well, what can I say? I'm good. I've been using that one for a while. No one suspects the little girl."
