Charles was about to protest that he had accepted that part of himself a long time ago, of course--but then he stopped to think before reflexively answering, and that pausing gave him the space to realize that he hadn't. Not really, not if he hadn't told Raven about it. Not if, as accepting of himself as he thought he was, he'd always treated that part of him not as a half of a whole but almost as an afterthought. He'd always assumed he'd end up with a woman, if he ever settled down, but then Erik had come into his life. Nothing had been the same after, and he wondered if he would have ever told Raven if not for that. He'd hidden boyfriends from her before, and he wondered if he could have hidden a partner for a lifetime. It hardly bore thinking about, and yet he thought the answer could easily be yes.
He then wondered on a brighter note if Raven would think Erik treated him right, and he was glad the angle they were at obscured his faint blushing. There were certainly things Raven didn't need to know about his sexuality, which included all of how he practiced it in private. Erik's behavior outside of it would be what mattered. He didn't think Raven would fault Erik for wanting to keep their relationship mostly secret, all things considered. They did a lot of hiding as it was.
"I love you too, my fierce little velociraptor of a sister." Charles laughed and kissed Raven's shocking red hair, enjoying once again the thickness of its texture. It wasn't greasy or slick, although it looked that way, but slick and smooth like early feathers. "I doubt I'll get much queerer than this, even if I tried. My lisp is atrocious. But thank you for the reassurance."
He's comfortable enough with himself to joke, at least, so he has that to console him. He reaches for another cupcake and unwraps it with his teeth, taking a bite full of icing.
"I'm not very surprised. I always half-wondered if you knew and were being polite by not telling me." It's a slight and harmless lie. He would have known, of course, he couldn't help not, but telling Raven that would do no one any good.
