WHEN. Jan. 22, Late Afternoon

There wasn't much he could remember from New Year's Eve, the whole night disappearing in a black out brought on my too much alcohol and a child-sized liver that couldn't exactly handle the amount consumed, especially when there was no cell regeneration to help him out. Related to the same, he hadn't exactly recalled the trouble with the Snow Queen nor the very fact someone else had stepped up to the plate to play hero, far more concerned at the time with out-drinking a Slayer than dreams he had deemed more drunken than precognitive.
Rachel was safe though, that much he knew thanks to a dozen or so text messages from Gary, pulling back a bit of the guilt in not being there to help. Not like there was much he could see himself doing at the time, not at all powered at the time and certainly at a disadvantage when it came to size and strength when he was running around as a ten year old.
It seemed, for now anyway, that life was back to normal. Or as normal as could be.
Exiting the The Dive where he had just finished up lunch, his hands dug into his pockets as he considered his options for a night that, thanks to a work schedule allowing it, was empty of any responsibility. There was no work to be had, no need to lock himself down to the usual bar crawlers, and as far as he knew, no one that needed saving, which was almost a relief. Lich kings, werewolves, magics he had no understanding of despite his own abilities - it was enough to make his head spin sometimes, and for once, a normal day wouldn't have been all that bad.
He started down the sidewalk at a casual pace, pausing only when he passed the Red Oak Chronicle building and adjacent newspaper stands, eyes scanning the front page visible through the window. Would he buy one? Not likely, but that didn't mean a preview of the local news wasn't out of the question.
