Jonah startled, then settled himself with visible effort. He hated being surprised, and more so by strangers, but it couldn't be helped, all of which had little to do with the fact that this man (Jonah recognized his face but didn't have a name to call him) apparently appeared as an emissary from Seth, which heralded nothing good.
He smiled back after a second, and like usual his smiles could either be interpreted to be just slightly remote or simply strange--it depended on a person's interpretation. The vast majority of students at their school found them disturbing ("freaks," was the kindest epithet in recent memory), and that was without the knowledge that Jonah and Seth had in fact murdered like, a bunch of people!
But then the doctor wasn't normal, and whatever powers that might be knew he'd seen his share of the bizarre, so maybe to him Jonah was just a tired looking teenager in a shirt far too light for the weather. He had no idea what he looked like to himself right now, let alone other people. "I'm tired and it's forty degrees out," he addressed the latter question succinctly. "If that's what you mean. Seth is being hysterical."
That was a terrible word, but he was feeling fairly terrible toward his brother at the moment, so there it was.
