Whomever or whatever comes through the door is less than imposing herself, at least at first glance. Black fabric has the advantage of hiding rips as well as stains, so the gash in the shirt over Anna's heart is nearly invisible, especially after she repaired her overshirt in tiny, neat seams, a leftover skill from the days when she was actually sixteen, and not hundreds of years old in a teenager's body. Which is exactly what she looks like, hence the lack of intimidation: short, with a tumbled mass of hair and dark layers of clothing that fail to give her bulk so much as they emphasize how small she actually is (it's nearly the perfect opposite effect of the equally small girl with whom Seth's brother is now spending time, in a burst of perfect literary irony Seth could certainly recognize if he saw it).
"'Anna' didn't clue you in?" she inquires toothily, with a grin that rings distinctly cheeky and therefore out of place; it's a test of Seth's observational skills how much he can tell about what she's taking in of the room (and him) when she appears to be doing nothing of the sort. Then again, maybe he doesn't need observational skills when her mind is obviously cataloging, slotting every detail into place in neat, manageable lines. "They were out of top shelf bleach, so I brought you OJ. I hope that's cool."
Oh Jay. Like that, which she does indeed have, in a white plastic bag over her arm. This she deposits in Seth's lap over the blanket before crouching down to examine his hand without actually touching him. "There's bandages in there too," she explains, still sounding blithely (and deceptively) airy, although getting this close to this much blood does make her--blink, under the fall of her hair. Contacts, she will say if asked. No big deal. "We have to wash it out first, though."
The ease with which she picks up his ....................finger might be telling, but there's really no time to freak out about that right now. "You know it's too late to save this, right? Unless you want to display it or something."
