Cole hadn't felt this angry in a long time. Sasha was infuriating. Beyond infuriating, she was completely mental and managed to find all the ways to bring out the worst in him. But as tempting as it was to hurt her, to make her just shut up for a change, he wasn't going to. He wasn't going to sink to that level. That was exactly what Kessler did and Cole wasn't playing that game any more.
He let her go. There was no getting through to this womanβshe was so far gone upstairs. Which made her beyond dangerous, and who knew what she would do to wreak havoc in a small town like this? The thought made his stomach twist uncomfortably. Sasha had done enough damage in Empire City, thank you. All those innocent people turned into mindless, tar-spewing monsters.
"So tell me, Sasha," he started casually, but with a venom dripping from his tone that was unmistakable. "Now that you've found me, what do you plan on doing? Obviously this isn't Empire City... and from the sounds of it, we're the only two conduits around." Cole was just beginning to piece together the fact that genetic mutation took all shapes and sizes around here. There might be mutants and other evolved humans, but they weren't conduits, exactly.
Now it was his turn to circle her, keeping his eyes glued on her to make sure she didn't try anything. "There's got to be some plans already forming in that crazy skull of yours. Care to enlighten me?"
