Sure, it was nothing more than a roof to everyone else. But to Cole? It had been home for a long while, through the biggest transition point in his life. It was here that he'd dealt with becoming a living generator, where he'd dealt with losing Trish, where heβd come to terms with the fact that his best friend betrayed him to try and get powers of his own. So much happened in that whirlwind of a month that just seeing it again... goddamn, it made him realise everything he was missing.
He missed Zeke something awful.
"We barely did," Cole commented sombrely. "With Empire City in quarantine, food started getting so scarce that people were starving. Whatever food was dropped in, it was canned stuff. The kind of food you wouldn't eat unless you were starving." Motioning around the rooftop, he pointed out everything and explained in as good of detail as he could manage, trying to paint the picture more clearly. "Used to be a couch here that I'd crash on. Over there Zeke set up a TV for news bulletins and the occasional hacked TV signal, plus a fridge for any real food that came our way. Table was over there."
At that he motioned to the edge of the building. "All around were homemade batteries Zeke made. He also set up a bunch of chain link fence along the edge of the roof too, plus barbed wire to keep people out. The mannequins were there too, in case someone had a gun and felt like trying to shoot the electric freak, they'd get these guys instead." Looking to the ugly ass things, Cole laughed as he zapped one of their heads off. "Goddamn, must've done that a few hundred times."
Thankfully it hadn't rained much that month. Worst come to worst, if it did, the two of them could retreat back into Zeke's apartment. Cole just had to go quietly or be as stealthy as possible. At least until people realised he that he wasn't a threat, that he was just a normal guy. A normal guy who was cursed with these bizarro powers. Cole still dreaded the day he had to stay cooped up inside whenever it next rained. Snow was fine, he could handle that. But rain? Forget about it.
